The global construction industry is currently facing a number of significant challenges, from material shortages to the urgent need for decarbonisation. Over the past few years, considerable efforts have been made to reduce energy consumption in air conditioning spaces to make them comfortable and habitable. However, this battle has already been won thanks to the increasing efficiency of equipment and better insulation of spaces.

Our gaze must, therefore, immediately turn to the concept of Embodied Carbon, a crucial step towards the decarbonisation of the industry. This goal is achievable thanks to the use of low-impact materials, such as those of natural origin, and especially timber. The essential virtue of wood lies in its ability to store carbon in its structure until it is burned or decomposed. In other words, building with wood is equivalent to capturing CO₂ from the atmosphere and building with it.

Does it still seem complex? At Arquitectura con Madera, our mission is to address the main obstacle to the widespread adoption of timber in the construction industry: the lack of education.

Our work focuses on breaking down prejudices and explaining the social, environmental and even economic benefits, in order to generate a transformative impact throughout the Latin American industry.
