What is Mass Timber?

Mass Timber, is engineered wood elements with such strength that it is capable of replacing steel and concrete as structural elements, even in high-rise buildings.

Instead of traditional timber-frame construction systems, which rely on many small linear wood elements, Mass Timber buildings feature large structural timber elements, such as panels, columns and beams, manufactured from multiple layers and/or strength-graded timber elements. Overall, the performance of Mass Timber buildings is better and more consistent (in terms of structure, fire safety, acoustics, seismic resistance, etc.) than that of traditional timber-framed buildings.

We are an interdisciplinary team dedicated to understanding the role that wood plays in the economy of the immediate future, with a particular focus on the construction industry. Our mission is to disseminate this knowledge among the various players in the Latin American market, actively and significantly contributing to the decarbonization of this sector in the region.
